Digg and Time

The quality of stories on Digg has eroded from cutting edge news to “newly found” old video footage of Family Guy or an old story about how Apple should change from 1997.

However, it does still have great news and links. It all depends on the time of day. In the afternoon (Eastern Time in the US) there’s pretty much garbage on the front page. By 8 or 9PM Eastern actual news stories make their way to the front page.

Thanks to Digg, I’ve found a way to see all the news I could ever want with OriginalSignal.com and Spotback.com. They are news aggregator sites which display the news from various sites in a grid. Original Signal is good for lots of different sources – however it lacks customizability.

For customizability, I go to Spotback. I threw on the feeds that OriginalSignal.com lack. No need to recreate what has been done well on other sites. My schedule is pretty tight these days, and to get all my news in one or two sites is excellent. I’ve never really liked RSS Readers because they look like e-mail programs. The grid format is excellent for people who want their info on one page like me.

If you’re tired of Digg having lousy stories in the afternoon, go over to OriginalSignal and Spotback. Plus they load quickly.

Killing Time Podcast: New Episodes

Alright, kids – new episodes of Killing Time are in the wings. There are 3 episodes already recorded and just waiting for editing. I’ll be editing them down this weekend. This should give us a buffer to resume normal Killing Time episodes.

What are the 3 episodes?
Part 003 of the Dick DeBartolo Interview – Dick trashes J.B.
Braden Russell of the HDTV Podcast fights with I.A. over surround sound.

and

The Taimak Interview with I.A. and J.B. The star of the cult-classic “Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon” on Killing Time, and it’s a hell of an episode.

Apple to launch Cingular Phone?

According to ThinkSecret, Apple is going to roll out their much rumored iPhone and it will be a Cingular exclusive.

I’m currently stuck in a Verizon contract. However, I may try to jump to Cingular if this Apple phone finally comes out. Why would I buy another 1st generation Apple product? Actually, after writing “1st generation Apple product” I am more apprehensive about picking one up until I read some reviews. However, let’s assume that a 1G iPhone will not be too buggy – in a perfect world it could be a combination of an iPod and a Newton.

As far as I’m concerned, this iPhone could be a Mac smart phone. That would be great. I wouldn’t need to carry a PDA, a cell phone and a music player. That’s a best case scenario. It would need to be able to download iTunes songs without connecting to a computer to really set it apart. (As an aside, I’ve never purchased anything from the iTunes Store because of my anti-DRM stance).

In a worst case scenario, it’s a lousy phone with iTunes capabilities. There’s lots of lousy phones out there, what’s one more?
